Preila (former Preil)

Emigrants from the Naujieji Nagliai village, which was buried with sand, set up the new settlement about 1843 or 1845, and called it Preil. 84 people lived in the village in 1849. The same year, the school moved from Naujieji Nagliai and opened in Preila.

Life in Preila wasn't easy, but number of dwellers was constantly increasing: 53 people were recorded in 1864, 123 in 1871, 133 in 1895, 225 in 1897, 207 in 1905, 238 in 1919 and 250 in 1923.

A new school building was constructed in 1907. The first hotel in Preila opened in the beginning of the 20th century. 205 inhabitants live in Preila today.
